The COVID-19 pandemic has made employees realize that work is now something they do, not a place they go, freeing employees and employers from the concept that they need to be in an office to get their work done.
Remote work varies considerably around the world depending on IT adoption, culture and industry mix.
What will the way businesses work look like?
By the end of 2021, remote workers will account for 32% of all employees worldwide, and throughout the year offices will reopen, 51% of those employees will be working in a hybrid environment, working from home at least one day a week.
By 2022, 31% of all employees worldwide will be remote, with the U.S. leading the way in terms of remote workers, representing 53% of its workforce. Across Europe, remote workers in the UK will account for 52% of its workforce, while China and India will account for 28% and 30%, respectively.
Remote working is forcing organizations to drive digital business transformation forward, those plans will need to include greater ongoing adoption of remote working and digital touchpoints, to create a post-COVID-19 fit.
In addition, the use of cloud technologies is increasing and as a result global end-user spending on public cloud services will grow by 26.7% this year, as CIOs and IT leaders will continue to.
Cloud-delivered applications, such as software-as-a-service (SaaS), will be prioritized.
